Bespoke Independent Kitchen Design

I make it personal

My Services

I approach every design collaboratively by listening to my clients, offering considered suggestions and providing high quality rendered images using the latest software. This approach makes every design personal and unique.

Consultation and Needs Assessment

I begin with a detailed conversation to understand your lifestyle, storage requirements, cooking habits, style preferences, and budget

Technical Drawings

I then create accurate floor plans, elevations, and layout drawings to define dimensions and ensure the design is functional and practical

3D visualisation

Finally, I produce realistic renders using the latest software that brings the design to life, allowing you to see exactly how your new kitchen look before any works start

My Approach

A bespoke kitchen is far more than simply a place to cook; it is the heart of your home, shaped entirely around the way you live

Unlike the mass-produced offerings of the big chains, a personally designed kitchen reflects your individual taste, habits, and lifestyle - with every detail considered

From the flow of the space to the feel of the materials, each element is crafted to fit perfectly - rather than forcing your life into a pre-set template.

The result is a kitchen that is both practical and beautiful, with a lasting sense of quality and character that can't be bought off the shelf

I'm an experienced kitchen designer with a background that spans every stage of the process from planning and layout through to installation.

Over the years, I have worked closely with skilled kitchen fitters, appliance specialists, and leading manufacturers.

Working with these contacts has given me a thorough understanding of how to create kitchens that are both stylish and practical.

Once we have agreed a design, I can advise you how your vision can be turned into practical reality, leveraging my extensive network of suppliers

"Dear Bernard the kitchen is now finished….everyone who sees it thinks you are very clever…”

Charlton basement

Client Profile: A young professional couple were embarking on a major basement renovation

They wanted a show-stopper -  blending their love of natural warm materials with plenty of storage, to create a space they could enjoy for more intimate cosy times as well as for large gatherings with family and friends

Design Brief: Having listened to my clients' preferences, and knowing how they wanted the new space to work and look, I proposed a walnut veneer door throughout, blended with reeded glass.

A Dekton surface with warm metallic tones was complemented with brushed brass handles and fittings.

To create the wow factor, and provide extensive storage, I drew up a bespoke walk-in larder in the corner which our team built on site.

“Bernard, with his expertise in design & the patience of a saint was full of great ideas and advice. We never felt rushed, just special, valued customers”

Blackheath family home

Client profile: My clients had originally planned a large extension to the back of the house which had needed to be scaled back. They wanted a light airy space which was a cosy family spot for day to day life and an inviting space to entertain

The original design therefore needed to be adapted to a smaller space, while retaining  as much of the storage and functionality as possible.

Design brief: We worked on the original completed design to adapt it to a smaller space.

The aim was to retain as much of the storage and functionality as possible.  We agreed to refine the wish list and acknowledge that there would need to be a degree of compromise.

Based on this, we agreed a hierarchy of their wish list items, and from there re-worked the the original design to enable the most important elements to be retained.

“he has been the most fantastic source of wisdom, reassurance and professionalism…..As you can tell I would recommend him in an instant..”

Charlton traditional

Client profile: The clients were both sociable and home-centred, and had long wished for a welcoming traditional kitchen with modern functionality, and storage that was tailored to their lifestyle.

The room was dated and lacked dedicated storage and a purposeful layout.

They hoped for a light airy space providing kitchen as well as general storage, plus a dining area for four without overpowering the space.

Design brief: I suggested the Caledonia Classic Kintyre Ash kitchen - a simple solid wood painted shaker door - in Northern Lights with Porcelain wall units, topped with Quartzform Ocean Arctic worktops and fitted with a full suite of Neff appliances.

I used a peninsular unit  to provide the required dining space, together with the extra counter surface and all important storage without breaking up the room and creating a sense of cohesion.

To the far end of the room nearer the door I added utility and larder storage as well as a bespoke floor to ceiling wine rack.

Limehouse

Client profile:

My clients work in the arts and media, and wanted their home to reflect their tastes and to be a place to enjoy items they have collected and curated over the years.

They are big on entertaining and wanted it to be practical to cook in, and exciting to spend time in!

Design brief: The clients had a strong appreciation of the aesthetic, along with a clear idea of how they wanted to use their space and what message they wanted it to convey.

The design needed to be sufficiently neutral to avoid detracting from their collectables, to include some storage for books and wines, and to provide a functional space with a hidden area for laundry without creating a specific utility room. The space also had to be sympathetic to some key items of furniture and include natural wood elements to complement these pieces.

We used a warm neutral soft touch lacquered door with a wood veneer in a warm earthy tone with distinctive grain and texture from Rotpunkt. This allowed for customisation of units, and offered a specific laundry cupboard in the same door finish which would blend in with the tall units. Wood was incorporated on the island and wall units to create a seamless link between the living and dining area and the kitchen

I also suggested an area at the end of the kitchen for the laundry and for utility storage to give a sense of zoning, and to avoid mundane but essential chores encroaching upon the main space.

We agreed on a downdraft hob with recirculation to allow them to cook and remain connected to those gathered around the table, and to prevent the need for overhead extraction which might unbalance the overall look of the space.
